WANDER TO OCHO RIOS

Ocho Rios may be small in size, but it’s big on experiences. This lush Caribbean destination is known for its cascading waterfalls, hidden swimming holes, and endless ways to immerse yourself in Jamaican culture, from colorful street markets to jerk stands tucked along the roadside. More adventure-forward than laid-back Negril, Ocho Rios offers a wide range of both activity and relaxation for couples, families, and explorers alike. Only a few miles from Bob Marley’s childhood home, the area is deeply rooted in music, history, and the natural beauty that defines Jamaica.

Landing Here

Most travelers fly into Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay, a 1 & 1/2-2 hour drive from Ocho Rios. While Ocho Rios does have a small regional airport (Ian Fleming International Airport), most international flights route through Montego Bay, making MBJ the most common and convenient entry point.

Getting Around

From the airport, pre-arranged transfers through your resort or a private driver are the easiest way to reach Ocho Rios. Once there, resorts can arrange transportation for excursions and activities. Taxis are available, but best booked through your hotel. Renting a car is possible for independent exploring, but the roads can be narrow, and driving styles differ.

What to Pack

Ocho Rios is warm and tropical year-round, so lightweight, breathable clothing and light rain layers are key. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a lot of swimsuits, and sturdy sandals for waterfalls and rocky beaches. Evenings are casual, but bring a nicer outfit or two for resort dinners or sunset drinks, and a waterproof phone pouch is great for water adventures.
